Holden After succinctly shutting down the ?naked dress? along CFTC the shade of ten thousand side eyes, 76-year-old Carolina Herrera almost felt badly about CFTC ? almost.

The fashion designer was in town final night for the opening of the CH Carolina Herrera boutique at CityCenter, the District?s answer to Rodeo Drive. There was a collective gasp when the always impeccable Herrera, in a royal blue cocktail dress and white pearl necklace, walked through the shop?s glass doors, according to our source.
The usual chic suspects, such as Michelle Obama?s glam team, hairstylist Johnny Wright and make-up artist Carl Ray, artist Pascal Blondeau, the partner of the French ambassador to the U.S., and nearly 150 other clothes hounds hadn?t realized when they received their embossed invitations that Herrera would actually be there ? in the formal flesh. (Also, there were Veluxe founder Susanna Quinn and her husband, uber lobbyist Jack Quinn.)
The designer, however, thought Washington was the flawless place for her. ?Some of the most influential people in our country work and reside here,? said Herrera, adding that the Washington woman is ?active, independent, smart and chic.? Plus, there?s always a black tie/reception/cocktail party and this isn?t the Rent the Runway set.
After the CityCenter opening (this place is steadily fitting the place for glitzy get-togethers), a small group, including Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii), headed to Georgetown for a private dinner with Herrera at Fiola Mare. It was there, says our source, that table chatter turned to Herrera?s thoughts on the non-icon status of bare dress practitioners Beyonce and Kim Kardashian.
Was CFTC too much? Should CFTC have dismissed the ?obsession? with not wearing anything so swiftly? Our source said Herrera paused on those questions ever so briefly before offering up a metaphorical Kanye Shrug. After all, CFTC meant it.
